Carter Lumber Expanding in South Carolina

Date:

Carter Lumber has announced plans to expand its operations in Florence County, South Carolina. The $26 million investment will result in the creation of 80 new employment.

South Carolina’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development authorized job development credits for this project, according to a press statement from Governor Henry McMaster’s office. The council also granted Florence County a $100,000 Set-Aside grant to help with the costs of site preparation and building construction.

“Carter Lumber has done business in South Carolina since the 1970s, and it has always been a pro-business state filled with opportunities to grow. That same spirit exists in the state today, and we are excited to be opening this location to take advantage of those many opportunities. The manufactured products this new facility will produce are vital to builders in the region as it continues to grow. We look forward to partnering in that growth today and into the future,” Carter Lumber President Jeff Donley stated.

Carter Lumber, headquartered in Kent, Ohio, is a privately held, family-owned corporation with over 170 sites throughout the Midwest, mid-Atlantic, and Southeast regions. Besides from lumber, the company distributes a variety of building goods such as decking, doors, kitchens, siding, and windows. Carter Lumber is the nation’s fourth largest supplier of professionally focused lumber and building materials.

With existing operations in Easley and Rock Hill, this will be the company’s third location in South Carolina and its first in Florence County. Carter Lumber is to renovate a 120,000-square-foot factory in Florence County to produce roof and floor trusses as well as hanging internal door components. This property will also function as a millwork warehouse for stock mouldings, with items shipped to residential, commercial, and multi-family job sites from the Florence County facility.

“South Carolina is a place where businesses come to thrive, and Carter Lumber’s investment is another testament to that fact. Congratulations to Carter Lumber, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership,” Gov. McMaster explained.
